Strength and stamina need balancing-up with soft skills like interviewing, presenting and public speaking

You’ve seen the new young champion struggling through that first TV interview – raw, nervous, inarticulate, maybe chippy and aggressive too. But media training is only one of the soft-skill programmes necessary for rounding-out the talents of a star performer of the field and track. Emergence into the public eye opens up vast new opportunities that can be driven by improved communication, spoken or written. A chance to raise your profile and build rapport with everyone from massed televiewers to key sponsors, club managers and chairmen, or after-dinner speaking audiences.

See how we make it happen, through careful scrutiny of your strengths and weaknesses as a presenter and a self-presenter. Editing your speech and manner, to engage emotionally with all groups. Using role-play and video to polish your performance, like a good actor. So, as your career diversifies, you can market yourself to the world with confidence and conviction.

Communicating with impact

for any professional sports person being talented at your given sport is only half the battle. Your career may only last ten years and therefore, it is crucial to maximise your earning potential away from your sport. If you take the likes of Roger Federer, David Beckham or Nicola Adams, they have capitalised on their charisma to generate enormous additional earning opportunities. David Beckham is a great example of a sportsman who started off lacking personality in front of the camera. However, with some extra help, he has worked hard at developing his impact and confidence and has reaped the rewards.

At Laughton Scott we will train you in how to come across as the authentic and engaging version of you when you are feeling under pressure; whether it’s speaking in public, a TV interview a commercial or being a pundit, we can maximise your impact, make you feel more confident and help develop your brand.

Public speaking

Successful sports people can command many thousands of pounds a night on the after-dinner circuit. Few make it because they lack the core skills to hold an audience. We can take you to that level. We’ll train you, write your content and have you perfectly primed to deliver a speech at a level you didn’t think possible.

Becoming a TV pundit/presenter

Very few sports people successfully transition into being a television pundit or presenter, why? It’s not that they lack the knowledge or personality, they simply don’t know what to do. We can teach you the skills to perform under pressure; whether it’s reading off an autocue, learning how to use the right body language and tone of voice or learning how to structure your questions and answers, Laughton Scott can help you transition into a successful TV career. It can help you transition into a successful TV career
